As running back Kennedy Brooks went to force Texas Tech defender Douglas Coleman III out of bounds, he took a nasty shot to the knee by Eli Howard.OU fans were furious about the play, as you’d imagine. Many were calling for Howard to be ejected.Whether or not you were for the punishment, it was definitely an unnecessary play. No part of the block helped Coleman out, and now it seems likely that Brooks is out for the remainder of this one. We haven’t gotten an update on his status, but there are at least a few good signs. The most important: Brooks was able to walk himself off the field, which likely wouldn’t have been the case if he suffered a severe injury (though some athletes with torn ACLs are able to, not to speculate what the nature of his injury is.)Another: per George Stoia of The Oklahoma Daily, he was spotted back on the sideline with his helmet, and wasn’t sent to the locker room.Kennedy Brooks is still on the #Sooners’ sidelines with his helmet, so that’s good.— George Stoia III (@GeorgeStoia) September 28, 2019Brooks’ day finished with eight rushes for 29 yards, third on the team behind starter Trey Sermon (seven carries for 79 yards and two touchdowns) and Hurts (nine carries for 70 yards and one touchdown). The freshman entered the day with 17 carries for 177 yards and a touchdown. He had a bigger role last season, carrying the ball 119 times for 1,056 yards and 12 touchdowns. We will bring you an update on Kennedy Brooks once we find out more about the injury. There will hopefully be more on his status after the game.Oklahoma leads Texas Tech 48-16 midway through the fourth quarter.last_img read more
