We must fight! Arteta issues rallying call to Arsenal teammates

first_img1 Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta insists his team-mates cannot afford to let their heads drop and must show some fighting spirit if they are to turn their season around. The north London club have suffered their worst start to a league campaign since 1982 following Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat against Manchester United.Arsene Wenger’s side have only won four of their opening 12 league games and are currently eighth in the table. But despite the latest setback, Arteta says it is crucial that the players don’t start to doubt their own ability and hopes they have the right temperament to get straight back on the winning trail.Arteta said: “We have top, top, players but after one, two or three disappointing results, they can have doubts and unhappy with themselves – it’s natural.“We cannot allow that to happen because it’s very demanding here, playing three or four times in 10 days and the bad periods are going to affect the team.“We need everyone on their toes and ready to fight. There are players here who can lift morale. We have the manager, the staff, who are very important.“The environment is also very important – if you come to the training ground after a defeat, you have to lift it up. We are all sad, we are all upset but we have to be positive.” Mikel Arteta last_img read more
