first_imgCharlie Smith High drubbed Penwood High 8-1 at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday to move closer to a spot in the next stage of the ISSA/FLOW Manning Cup football competition.Led by a brace from Kemar James in the 44th and 48th minutes, Charlie Smith notched their fifth straight win. Also getting their names on the score sheet were Ronaldo McDonald (3rd), Shawn Ricketts (14th), captain Shaquille Notice who converted a penalty (23rd), Brian Harding (35th), and substitute Kurt Hibbert (67th).Penwood scored a late goal when Cherando Anderson converted a penalty in the 77th minute.From the kick-off, the home side was clearly the better team and they were quickly in the lead going two up in the first 15 minutes.In the second half, they missed a number of clear chances which could have seen them winning by a much wider margin.Wasted some chancesPenwood looked good in patches and also wasted some chances to make it a more respectable scoreline.Charlie Smith’s coach Jerome Waite was pleased with the three points as it pushed his team a step closer to the second round.”I expected more goals as we wasted about seven in the second half. It is always a concern when the team misses many chances,” Waite told The Gleaner.”However, I am satisfied with the win as we need one more victory to seal a spot in the next round. And, that is the objective,” the veteran coach, who has guided Charlie to three Manning Cup titles added.On the other hand, Penwood’s coach Orlando Clarke was pleased with his team’s performance in the second half.”Well, based on the second half, we improved as a team and got some chances.
