The biggest box-office clash between Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees and Salman Khan’s Sultan has been averted. The latest update has it that the makers of Raees have decided to postpone the release date of the film to 2017. And if reports are to be believed, the box office result of Shah Rukh’s last release, Fan, has added a new twist to the tale.ALSO READ: Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees in legal mess, gangster Abdul Latif’s son demands Rs 101 crore ALSO READ: Here’s what Sunny Leone has to say about working with Shah Rukh Khan Buzz has it that after the box office debacle of Fan, the makers of Raees are not too keen to have a face-off with Salman Khan’s Sultan. And this has come as a surprise for Bollywood fans since Shah Rukh has never shied away from box office clashes all this while. Be it Om Shaanti Om vs Saawariya in 2009, or Jab Tak Hai Jaan vs Son of Sardaar in 2012, or Bajirao Mastani vs Dilwale in 2015 at the ticket windows, SRK’s films have always fared well.Interestingly, in an interview to Hindustan Times in August 2015, Shah Rukh had admitted that he was unfazed by the box office clash with Sultan. He was quoted as telling the daily, “There is no issue… Let them also release. It’s very simple: their distribution and production offices feel their film should release on Eid, while my distribution office feels that ours is designed for Eid. So, we both have decided [on the same date], but there’s no clash the way it’s being made out to be.”advertisementHe further explained, “There’s a simple logic there are 300 films and 52 Fridays (in a year). There are going to be [almost] six films releasing on the same day. Sometimes, it happens to be mine. The idea is to do our best and wish the other person also the very best.”But things have taken a U-Turn ever since Fan failed to make it to the Rs 100-crore club. The box office result of Fan has made SRK and the makers of Raees reconsider their options. A joint statement on behalf of producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, who co-own Excel Entertainment, and SRK read, “It was not an easy decision to move the film. We understand that Raees is highly anticipated. However, a film of such magnitude requires appropriate showcasing and therefore, we have decided to shift our release date to 26th January 2017.”Since Akshay Kumar’s Rustom will release on Independence Day, Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay and Aamir Khan’s Dangal have taken Diwali and Christmas slot, Raaes had to be shifted to next year. With the makers of Raees taking a step back, Salman Khan has got the opportunity to rule the box office once again, this Eid. Directed by Abbas Ali Zafar, Sultan is a sports-based film, which also stars Anushka Sharma. The film is set to hit the screens on July 6.
