Chu Statement on Vote to Avoid a Government Shutdown Published on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 | 1:34 pm Just hours before the deadline to avoid a government shutdown, the House of Representatives passed a continuing resolution to fund the government until December 11, 2015. After the vote to pass the continuing resolution, the House voted for a resolution that would add language to defund Planned Parenthood. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), who voted for the continuing resolution and against the measure to defund Planned Parenthood, released the following statement:With this resolution we avoided one looming partisan shutdown only to set up the next for December. Meanwhile, sequester cuts continue to strangle domestic services and our defense capabilities. This pattern of lurching from crisis to crisis while ignoring the requirements of real, long-term budgeting must end. Worse, Republicans once again tried to use the urgency of keeping the government open as an excuse to attack women’s healthcare by trying to defund Planned Parenthood. This ploy, which almost led to yet another government shutdown, threatened to have serious impacts on the health of women and families. I am proud to stand by Planned Parenthood as an essential provider of safe, legal, and quality care.“Today is not a victory, it is just doing the bare minimum to avoid a failure. The sequester must be lifted and government should return to funding as normal. I voted today to avoid a shutdown, but I would much prefer to vote on a budget that meets our needs, helps families succeed, puts our country on a secure footing, and provides real confidence in our government and the economy.” HerbeautyStop Eating Read Meat (Before It’s Too Late)HerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeautyA Mental Health Chatbot Which Helps People With DepressionHerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeautyThe Most Heartwarming Moments Between Father And DaughterHerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeauty11 Ayurveda Heath Secrets From Ancient IndiaHerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeauty10 Of The Most Notorious Female Spies In HistoryHerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeauty10 Most Influential Women In HistoryHerbeautyHerbeauty Community News Home of the Week: Unique Pasadena Home Located on Madeline Drive, Pasadena Make a comment First Heatwave Expected Next Week Your email address will not be published. Security guard stabbed by sweet thief

first_imgLinkedin Facebook WhatsApp THE stabbing of a shopping centre security guard in the leg, yards from a garda station, over “some jelly babies and a chocolate bar”, has resulted in a teenager being jailed for two and half years.Sign up for the weekly Limerick Post newsletter Sign Up Ryan Kelly, 19, of no fixed abode but originally from Limerick City stole the confectionary from the Roxboro Road Shopping centre on April 5 this year.He was caught by security staff trying to leave the shop without paying. As he was being restrained, he pulled a knife and stabbed the security guard in the thigh.Gardai were called to the scene after Kelly fled and they found the security guard, wounded and leaning against a blood soaked wall.Prosecution Counsel John O’Sullivan said it was only then that the guard realised he had been “stabbed in a most sneaky and underhand way.” The victim, who is in his 30s, has recovered physically but is still quite scarred mentally. At Limerick Circuit Court last week, Kelly pleaded guilty to assault causing harm of the security guard. The court was told of Kelly’s difficult family upbringing and his bi-polar condition for which he was receiving medical treatment.Taking this into account, Judge Moran said that he would suspend a portion of a prison sentence but it was a source of considerable worry that the serious stabbing arose over some jelly babies and a chocolate bar and that Kelly confessed he always carried a knife. He imposed a four year prison sentence but suspended the last 18 months.
