Hurricane Florence: Are you covered?

She is also a storytelling expert and works with credit unions to help … Web: www.financialfeed.com Details Hurricane Florence What you don’t know about your homeowners insurance may cost you when disaster strikes.According to the Insurance Information Institute, you can count on the majority of homeowners’ policies to cover the structure of your home, personal property, detached units and any living expenses. Everything else may require special policies or may be excluded.Take natural disasters like hurricanes. To limit their exposure to catastrophic losses from these events, insurers offer deductible plans that, depending on the state, will determine the level of hurricane, windstorm or wind/hail deductibles. The III says there are two kinds of wind damage deductibles: hurricane, which covers just damage from hurricanes, and wind/hail, which exclusively covers wind damage. In general, these are percentage deductibles, which can range from 1% to 5% of a home’s insured value. So if your house is insured for $300,000 and has a 5% deductible, you’re responsible for the first $15,000 of your claim. You’ll find details of hurricane deductibles on the declarations page of your homeowners policy.Believe it or not, while the National Flood Insurance Program reports that 90% of all natural disasters involve flooding, you won’t find flood coverage in standard homeowners’ or renters’ policies. You’ll need a separate policy for that from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Flood Insurance Program and/or a few private insurers.NFIP offers up to $250,000 to cover your home’s structure and $100,000 for your personal property. According to FEMA, it’s not just homes in flood zones at risk. In fact, more than 20% of flood claims come from properties outside high-risk federal flood zones.Need more incentive to do your homework instead of skimming your policies? NFIP flood insurance policies may cover up to $1,000 spent to protect your property like sandbags or water pumps. The III advises homeowners to keep copies of all receipts and time spent to do the work so it’s easy to ask for reimbursement.last_img read more

NHL Draft lottery results 2020: Rangers jump to top of draft order, where Alexis Lafreniere awaits

first_imgThe New York Rangers had the ping-pong ball bounce their way and will select No. 1 overall come October.Alexis Lafreniere is expected to be their choice. He’ll now likely suit up under the bright lights of Broadway with the likes of Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad and No. 2 pick from the 2019 draft, Kaapo Kakko. MORE: Who is Alexis Lafreniere?NHL Draft lottery results 2020Here is the complete 2020 NHL Draft order after Phase 2 lottery drawing. Positions nine through 15 are determined by point percentage from the regular season. The remaining 16 slots (No. 16-31) will be determined by the results of the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs with the champion tentatively scheduled to pick 31st.TEAM1. Well, it got kind of funky.Phase 2 of the 2020 NHL draft lottery happened Monday night and while it wasn’t the worst team, the second-worst team or even the third-worst (!) from 2019-20 that received the No. 1 overall selection, it was the third-worst team from the qualification round. First, there was a lottery back in June where the seven teams not participating in the postseason found out where they slotted for the draft. But as we said earlier, none of those teams were selected to pick first overall. That honor went to something called “Team E” — a placeholder for one of the eight teams eliminated from the NHL’s qualifying round. So, that activated Phase 2.On Monday, the NHL held a single draw in which every team has equal 12.5 percent odds to win the No. 1 overall pick and (what is expected to be) Lafreniere. The other seven teams will be assigned positions 9-15, in inverse order of their points percentages at the time the regular season was paused.last_img read more

Canada pushes China at WTO on canola as Beijing bristles over Trudeau

first_imgOTTAWA — Canada has requested a formal meeting with China at the World Trade Organization to resolve a Chinese ban on Canadian canola shipments.International Trade Minister Jim Carr announced Friday that Canada is seeking a bilateral consultation at the WTO because the two sides have been unable to resolve the issue.China’s decision to ban canola shipments is part of disintegrating relations with Canada following the RCMP’s December arrest of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou in Vancouver on a U.S. extradition request.Nine days later, China imprisoned two Canadian men, ex-diplomat Michael Kovrig and entrepreneur Michael Spavor, on suspicion of spying in what is widely viewed as retaliation for Meng’s arrest.Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said earlier this week that China uses arbitrary detentions as a tool to achieve its international and domestic political goals. That comment sparked the ire of a spokesman for China’s foreign ministry on Friday, who reiterated Beijing’s position that Meng’s arrest had no basis in law, and that Canada was acting as an American pawn.Carr said in a statement that Canada’s action at the WTO is part of its commitment to “rules-based international trade” on behalf of Canadian farmers who have been hit by the canola ban.“Canada has continued to engage with China at various levels with a view to resolving the issue. In order to make progress, Canada is seeking bilateral consultations at the WTO, which is the usual next step when direct engagement does not lead to resolution,” Carr said.China blocked imports of Canadian canola seeds, alleging they found pests in some shipments. The federal government says it has tried unsuccessfully to send a delegation of inspectors to China to examine the evidence. The government has supplied an additional $150 million in insurance to canola farmers.“We stand by our robust food inspection system and will continue to keep farmers, producers and other stakeholders informed of our progress,” said Carr.Mike Blanchfield, The Canadian Presslast_img read more

Iron Maiden Singer Teaches The Disabled To Fly

first_imgBruce Dickinson, the Iron Maiden frontman who used to be a commercial airline pilot, is teaching UK residents with disabilities to fly.Dickinson is working with The Royal International Air Tattoo Flying Scholarships for Disabled People (FSDP), a charity created in the memory of flying ace Douglas Bader, a pilot who lost his legs in an aeroplane accident yet continued as a fighter pilot in World War II.Each year, FSDP provides scholarships to selected applicants with varying disabilities as a way to challenge and inspire them, to focus attention on their abilities rather than everything that they cannot do. The results show improvement in self confidence, outlook and future aspirations.“You gave my son faith in himself and the future,” says the father of one of the scholars.Another scholar was surprised by the course participants: “A bunch of interesting, gutsy people who had been thrown a stinking hand in life and come through fighting. Every one of them had turned down the offer of a bland future, filled with disappointment and disability aids, and come in search of something more”.Nearly 400 people have been awarded a flying scholarship with FSDP since its beginnings in 1983. Dickinson is one of FSDP’s Vice Patrons.Find out more here.Copyright ©2013Look to the Starslast_img read more
