Warhol’s Marilyn

first_img <a href=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHGRmwLq_zc” rel=”nofollow” target=”_blank”> <img src=”https://img.youtube.com/vi/XHGRmwLq_zc/0.jpg” alt=”0″ title=”How To Choose The Correct Channel Type For Your Video Content ” /> </a> The vision of Andy Warhol is unmistakable: pop culture reimagined and reinvented as vibrant art. Among the boldest work in his oeuvre is a series of large-scale, multicolored prints of Marilyn Monroe, and for the next few weeks, visitors to the Harvard Art Museums can see many of those images together, up close. To complement to the American Repertory Theater’s “WARHOLCAPOTE,” a new show based on a series of taped conversations between Warhol and author Truman Capote, the museums’ Art Study Center will display a series of 10 prints from Warhol’s “Marilyn Monroe” portfolio. The series, along with the original cardboard box they came in, was given to the museums in 2015 by Michael F. Marmor ’62, M.D. ’66, and Jane B. Marmor, M.D. ’66.“To have the whole portfolio of these screen prints in their original box is amazing,” said Mary Schneider Enriquez, the Houghton Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, who helped organize the Monday showings. “Other people may have a single Marilyn Monroe print or a couple, but having the entire series is incredibly exciting. We can measure the whole range of tonalities all at once. It’s almost as if you are getting a little bit of Andy Warhol directly.”The show features six prints at a time, offering visitors a sense of their collective range and power, said Enriquez. Viewers of the images, each measuring 36 by 36 inches, will be struck not only by their size, she said, but also by the ways in which Warhol’s color choices dramatically alter how one sees his famous subject. That coloring, be it a pop of fluorescent blue or muted tones of gray, transforms the repeating image of Monroe’s hooded eyes, plump lips, glamorous waves, and classic beauty mark into something nuanced and complex.“The difference in the way the beauty mark appears in each of these because of the coloring makes you see her face in a different way and makes you read her and who she was in a different way, a way I admit I didn’t expect,” said Enriquez. “It wasn’t until I had time seeing them all together that I began to see them not as some kind of play on the advertising industry and all the things that Warhol gets credit for, but for this real complexity there.”The artist’s decision to focus on Monroe points to his own understanding of the darker side of fame, she added.“Monroe in many ways epitomized a lot of the iconic status he liked to focus on as a figurehead in popular culture. But I as I thought more about it, Monroe, like Warhol himself, was self-created and then became consumed by others. … He became what others decided he was at a certain point, and they certainly did that with her.”Still, Warhol is “a touchpoint in 20th-century art that endures,” said Enriquez. For the next three weeks at the Harvard Art Museums, visitors will be able to see some of that enduring legacy for themselves.“WARHOLCAPOTE” will be at the American Repertory Theater through Oct. 13. Enriquez and visual artist Jesse Aron Green will take part in a post-performance discussion on Oct. 4.Act II at A.R.T.: WARHOLCAPOTE partners with the Harvard Art Museumslast_img read more

CSEBA brings the strongest representatives of the Chinese tourism sector to the region

first_imgSoutheast European Business Association (CSEBA), in cooperation with the event organization company Meritum komunikacije, Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce (SRCIC), the City of Dubrovnik, the Croatian Ministry of Tourism, the Croatian National Tourist Board and the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism of Montenegro since 24. until April 26, organizes the Silk Road Tourism Conference in Dubrovnik, at the Sheraton Dubrovnik Riviera Hotel. This makes the Silk Road Tourism Conference the largest and most important business event that connects major Chinese businessmen with the regional one, in order to strengthen tourism cooperation and related activities. The importance and seriousness of this gathering is confirmed by the fact that the conference, along with representatives of the economy from Croatia and the region, is attended by the largest Chinese tour operators, the Chinese International Chamber of Commerce, which networks about a hundred chambers of commerce. The Silk Road, interested Chinese investors and other stakeholders who follow the tourism industry. It is a clear indicator of the interest of the Chinese business community to perform in the region, because the conference is attended by, among others, Wang Shuai, founder and president of iYAT, the largest Chinese nautical company that promotes with its 10.000 yachts high class travel packages for Chinese boaters around the world. Precisely, Shuai is coming to Croatia this year to expand cooperation with local businessmen, because last year he saw what nautical potentials our coast offers. There is great interest from regional countries for this gathering, but Croatia has strategically jumped because of its geographical position and the strength it has in the tourism segment.Photo: Mario Rendulić, CSEBA”In addition to respected Chinese and regional businessmen, our guests are also visited by the highest representatives of the Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce (SRCIC), an organization that connects about a hundred chambers of commerce on the Silk Road, and of which CSEBA has recently become a full member. It is a business club whose targeted activities strengthen the exchange between Western countries and China and accelerate business processes in order to strengthen investment and expand business and, among other things, encourage the arrival of Chinese tourists to the Adriatic. “says Mario Rendulić, President of the Presidency of CSEBA, who with an investment of 30 million kuna in Krapinske Toplice showed what opportunities are open to us through strengthening cooperation with Chinese businessmen.CSEBA points out that they decided to organize such a high-profile business meeting with the success of the 1st Silk Road Tourism Workshop held in early February in Krapinske Toplice, as well as the strong investment pulse that is yet to be expected, especially after the recent decision to build the Peljesac Bridge. be a Chinese company China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).In the three days of the conference, special emphasis will be placed on the topics of nautical, health and cultural tourism. The plans of SRCIC in Croatia and the region will be presented, as well as the work of the Silk Road Fund, which will invest in the future in several countries in our region. “Croatian tourist capacities are still quite unknown to the Chinese market, and the Croatian tourist sector needs to be well prepared for the reception of Chinese guests who, in addition to cultural specifics, also differ in the use of Chinese communication platforms that have yet to be introduced. In addition, the promotion in the People’s Republic of China requires great organizational and cost efforts, so one of the goals of this gathering was to bring as many relevant Chinese partners as possible to Croatia and the region. ” they conclude from CSEBA and add that a pre-agreement on the shooting of the first Chinese film in Croatia will be signed during the conference. The Silk Road Tourism Conference program is located at www.silkroad.com.hr read more
