The Games have brought a new found confidence in small towns and kasbas across the country and young boys and girls in these little places have started to believe that they also can dream big! That is the real success of the Games and the credit goes to our little known athletes who never occupied a respectable space in our cricket-crowded media. Shaabash, our unsung heroes! We are really proud of you.Now the big question is if anything will change after this? Can our athletes and players hope for a better environment for them to succeed and to reach the level of real world class sportspersons? Will this become a national agenda? And what about all the stories of corruption and criminal negligence which came out in the last few months and went under wraps? Will they be investigated and the guilty booked? Or would everything be forgotten with the happy ending? If that happens that would be the most tragic outcome of the Games!
An impressive display of batting and bowling by Yuvraj Singh helped India beat Ireland by 5 wickets. He finished with figures of 5-31 and then scored an unbeaten 50 to help India beat Ireland by five wickets in their World Cup Group B match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Sunday.Ireland suffered an early jolt when they lost Stirling and Joyce at the score of just 9 runs. But a brilliant batting display by their captain William Porterfield, who scored 75 runs off 104 balls helped Ireland put 207 runs on board But, Yuvraj Singh had other plans. First he dismissed Kevin O’Brien cheaply and then accounted for Porterfield’s wicket to push the ‘giant-killers’ to the wall. Not just with the bowl he came good with bat too scoring an impressive 50 runs off 75 balls. He won the Man-of-match for his impressive on field display.
Kangna Ranaut’s cold war with Sanjay Dutt has started hurting the prospects of David Dhawan’s upcoming Rascals, a film that sees the two stars share screen space. The rift came out in the open when Kangna missed the music launch of the film in Mumbai on September 14, 2011, which was attended by the cast and crew including Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt. Rumours suggest Sanjay, co-producer of Rascals, put his foot down on inviting Kangna for the do.This comes in the wake of reports that the makers of Rascals were considering filing an official complaint against Kangna with the Cine and TV Artists Association (CINTAA) for reportedly demanding an additional Rs 10 lakh to complete dubbing for the film. The producers have insisted that she has already been paid the contractual amount of Rs 80 lakh for the project.”The official line at the music launch was that Kangna couldn’t make it because of prior commitments. However, considering this is her biggest film this year and her first release after Double Dhamaal where she hardly had screen space, it seems unlikely she would have any commitment more important than this,” an eyewitness at the music launch said.Rascals is scheduled to release on October 6. The film marks the return of director Dhawan after his 2009 dud, Do Knot Disturb. Considerable hype has been built over Kangna’s bikini scene in the film because this is the first time she dons a two-piece on screen. Early reports had, however, suggested that Kangna had flatly refused to do the scene despite saying yes initially. Finally, Dhawan managed to convince her to give the shot. The actress’s absence from the music launch was all the more glaring because Rascals co-producer Sanjay Ahluwalia had indicated Kangna was having issues with certain members of the cast. Reports suggesting Kangna had fallen out with Ajay and Sanjay surfaced a few months ago, even as the film was being shot. During the shooting of the film, Kangna reportedly showed starry attitude, which irked Sanjay.Baseless rumours cropping up around the time also suggested that Kangna was names-dropping, using her proximity to Ajay and Sanjay to further her interests within the industry. Kangna openly went around telling people how close she was to Sanjay and his wife Maanayata, a source said.advertisement
Salman Khan is on the brink of completing a silver jubilee in Bollywood, and actress Kareena Kapoor says the industry is incomplete without him.”I think we all are big fans of Salman and he has been my and Karisma’s (Kapoor) co-star. I am really happy with his 25 years because this industry is incomplete without Salman,” the 31-year-old said here. The actress, who is awaiting the release of her film Heroine spoke on the sidelines of a special shoot for comedy TV show “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah”.About her appearance on the show, Kareena said: “I think it’s the number one TV show, so we are happy that we could promote our film ‘Heroine’ on such a popular stage.”The serial’s most popular character, Daya Jethalal Gada, essayed by actress Disha Vakani, made Kareena do the garba. Kareena, who has danced to Halkat jawaani in the film was quite a sport.”All of them are quite halkat so we danced on ‘Halkat jawaani’ and the show has got that spirit. I also did the garba and Punjabi dance and I also made them dance to my song. So the concept has been well-woven in the script,” Kareena said.Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, Heroine hits theatres this Friday and also stars Arjun Rampal and Randeep Hooda.

Both Vikas and Canada’s Pascal Plamondon were tied on 333kg but Vikas won the silver on the account of lesser body weight. Plamondon also lifted 150kg in snatch and 183kg in clean and jerk.
That’s not entirely true. He knew it would be difficult but he couldn’t have foreseen anything like this, since the only other losing season of his life came when he was a rookie in 2003-04.Thing is, he doesn’t possibly know what comes next. No one does. The offseason will see roster change, top free agents to play alongside James will be pursued hard by Rob Pelinka and Magic Johnson, and it will not be a surprise if the Lakers decide Luke Walton isn’t the right coach anymore. But the key for the 2019-20 Lakers — obviously — is going to be James. The grind of eight straight runs to the NBA Finals is over. He’s about to get six months off to rest, recover, reset, heal, think, plot, prepare. It’s been a long time since that happened, and at this point in his career it might be precisely what he needs.“Rest is going to help,” said Miami guard Dwyane Wade, one of James’ closest friends. “I think the biggest thing with him is probably mental, the mental break from it. Physically, obviously, he’s getting older but he’s still very good at this game. Look at his numbers. They’re still very good. But he’s been going at it for a long time, so to get away from it and kind of look at it from a different lens, it’ll definitely help.”It has been proven that setbacks inspire James.ADVERTISEMENT Miami lost the 2011 NBA Finals in his first season with the Heat. Fueled by that, he came back the next year better than ever, and his fingerprints smudged the Larry O’Brien Trophy for the first time in 2012. Cleveland lost the 2015 finals in his first year back there, and he carried that all the way to winning the 2016 title.Of course, he was younger then. He’ll turn 35 in December. Next season is his 17th in the NBA. Does he have the ability to engineer the sort of turnaround that LA needs?Kevin Love, his former Cleveland teammate, has no doubt.“Just having that break, being able to reassess and come back really, really highly motivated, I think it’s going to be big for him,” Love said. “If you get Bron highly motivated, anything can happen.”James is still putting up amazing numbers. At 34, he’s on pace to become the oldest person in NBA history to average 27 points, eight assists and eight rebounds. If it happens, he’ll break the record set by 33-year-old LeBron James last season. No other 30-something has finished a season with stats like that.Still, this Lakers’ season is lost. But Wade warns against expecting the same next season.“This is definitely going to make him hungrier for what he’s trying to accomplish next year,” Wade said.MORE JAMESJames passed Michael Jordan for No. 4 on the NBA’s all-time regular season scoring list last week. The Los Angeles Lakers aren’t mathematically eliminated from postseason consideration yet, but it’s only a matter of time. For the first time in 14 years, the postseason will begin without James — and for the first time in nine years, the NBA Finals will be played without him.It will be a very long offseason for James.FEATURED STORIESSPORTSPrivate companies step in to help SEA Games hostingSPORTSUrgent reply from Philippine football chiefSPORTSPalace wants Cayetano’s PHISGOC Foundation probed over corruption chargesIt is not what he envisioned, either.“It’s challenging,” James said of the current state of the Lakers. “But I kind of knew what I was getting myself into.” Hong Kong tunnel reopens, campus siege nears end Private companies step in to help SEA Games hosting PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games PLAY LIST 02:42PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games01:44Philippines marks anniversary of massacre with calls for justice01:19Fire erupts in Barangay Tatalon in Quezon City01:07Trump talks impeachment while meeting NCAA athletes02:49World-class track facilities installed at NCC for SEA Games02:11Trump awards medals to Jon Voight, Alison Krauss Sports Related Videospowered by AdSparcRead Next THE WEEK AHEADA game to watch each day this week, as the playoff races continue getting hotter:— Monday, Boston at L.A. Even from Los Angeles, that’s a long flight and it remains to be seen if James would want to make it twice in a relatively short amount of time. While you’ll read about the AS200 in the pages to follow, allow me to get you acquainted with the smaller but completely new AS150 first. Let’s start by getting the obvious out of the way. AS stands for “Adventure Sport” but there’s barely any resemblance to an ADV bike. No long-travel suspension, dual-sport tyres or panniers here. What you get instead is a half-fairing and a tall windscreen. Bajaj explains that the aim was not to offer an out-and-out adventure bike but to bring the genre to the masses and familiarise them with adventure touring. With this, the AS150’s intent and purpose becomes clearer. You see, a lot of riders out there take to weekend getaways for their share of thrills and more often than not, the daily commuter is the steed for that getaway but there are problems. The bare muscles, street warrior doesn’t have a fairing or a windscreen to save you from the countless bugs on the highway. The headlight that we never paid attention to in the city, now seems inadequate because there aren’t any street lights to help visibility. Then there’s the engine which suffices in rush hour traffic but there’s an evident lack of it on the highway.Bajaj has identified these issues and has addressed them to offer the best of both worlds. Starting with the looks, a half fairing gets slapped onto the familiar NS200 tank. Adorning the fairing is a low-beam projector and halogen high-beam. And the fairing isn’t just there for aesthetics; the tall wind screen offers enough real estate to duck behind. Taller handlebars and slightly rearset footpegs make the rider trianglular for comfortable ergonomics. Although, we don’t quite understand this fascination with pseudo clip-ons; a straight-bar offers better feel, feedback and is far easier to deal with in case of a crash. You’ll also be looking at a recognizable instrument cluster originally from the NS and the stock tank pad is a stylish and functional touch. The overall design is attractive and we like it; despite the multiple panels used in the fairing, it isn’t busy.advertisementMechanically, the AS150 gets a new engine shrouded in a perimeter frame and monoshock rear suspension. The 150cc engine is the most powerful air-cooled engine in its class with 17bhp on tap but is relaxed in nature due to its under-square construction. This is a long-stroke engine which usually translates to more bottom-end torque but the combination of the 4-valve head assisting better breathability, a larger air-box and matching gearing offers sufficient grunt low down but focuses more on top-end performance. But we’ll get to its performance in just a bit. The highlight on the AS150 is the perimeter frame which makes its way from the… well, take a guess, and is a departure from the dual-cradle frame on the older bike. The winding roads of Lavasa gave us a taste of the AS150’s performance and the venue couldn’t have been more apt. Varying gradients strewn with twists and turns are a test for the bike’s overall performance and handling. So, we hit the twisties and straight off the engine’s relaxed character comes to fore. There isn’t much vibration neither is there any hint of stressed performance despite the engine being air-cooled power flows in a linear fashion and the AS150 never feels out of breath. But a slight drawback is that power builds up over 6,000rpm and below it, there’s a definite lack of poke. One has to really give it the beans to stir the motor for spirited riding. Mind you, this relaxed nature is deceptive as the bike does accelerate as fast as its competition, claimed at 4.9 seconds for a 0-60kmph dash. The focus here being touring, AS150 riders will appreciate the long-legged feel of the engine on the highway. The gearbox is slick and clutch feel is light which translates to hassle free city commutes too. Dynamically, the AS150 benefits from the perimiter frame and feels light on its feet. It’s easy to flick in corner transitions and the ride is plush even with the suspension sprung soft.Though, this softness tends to compromise on sharpness when turning in,. But having said that, it doesn’t rob away the fun that one can have. The bike holds a confident line around fast corners. 170mm of ground-clearance should mean that you’d be able to take it off the road but road-biased (and slightly skinny) MRF rubber ensure that you quickly get back onto tarmac. No ABS here, not even as an option, a feature that we think would’ve been welcome considering that the 240mm front disc feels squishy and lacks feel while the 130mm rear drum just about suffices.advertisement
