In the final round, Mary Kom launched an all-out attack to seal the issue in her favour.”It was not all that tough for me. I had never faced her before but didn’t have to slog too much. So far so good,” the 27-year-old told PTI after the bout.”Despite the increased competition, I think I can still dominate my category. TV Today News Director QW Naqvi on CWG

first_imgConnect with the Editor Now the Games are over but the Game has started! Yes. Another Game which people have already started playing. Everyone is jostling to take credit for the success. Everyone is trying to pull at the legs of rivals. A politics of shame is already in the air. Someone roaring with the success has come out with the idea that we can organise an Olympics too. Obviously we can, exactly the way we did CWG. The bigger the event, the bigger would be the booty to share! No doubt the Games are a great success and the credit goes to our athletes and players who won 101 medals on their own. We all know how our various sports associations work and how much they contribute to the enlistment of sports in the country. Our unsung and little known heroes have made the Games a real great success. The Games have brought a new found confidence in small towns and kasbas across the country and young boys and girls in these little places have started to believe that they also can dream big! That is the real success of the Games and the credit goes to our little known athletes who never occupied a respectable space in our cricket-crowded media. Shaabash, our unsung heroes! We are really proud of you.Now the big question is if anything will change after this? Can our athletes and players hope for a better environment for them to succeed and to reach the level of real world class sportspersons? Will this become a national agenda? And what about all the stories of corruption and criminal negligence which came out in the last few months and went under wraps? Will they be investigated and the guilty booked? Or would everything be forgotten with the happy ending? If that happens that would be the most tragic outcome of the Games!last_img read more
