FRISCO, Texas – Abilene Christian’s Jonathan Sheehy and Central Arkansas’ Chunxi Xin are the Southland Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by MidSouth Bank. Playing with Nikolas Moceanu, Sheehy came out on top in doubles play for the eighth time in the past nine matches with a 6-4 win against UIW’s Dennis Boisseau and Oliver Valentinsson. This marks Sheehy’s third player of the week award of the 2019 season. Sheehy secured the match-clinching point at No. 2 singles against Incarnate Word’s Gabriel Evans on Friday, wrapping up the 2019 Southland Conference regular-season title for the Wildcats. He turned around the following day and picked up a straight-set singles win in a 4-3 team victory over UTSA to extend his solo winning streak to three matches. Women’s Tennis Player of the Week – Chunxi Xin, Central Arkansas – Freshman – Baoding, ChinaOpposite the net of ACU’s top-line singles player Nini Memishishi, Xin looked like a veteran, taking the match in straight sets and blanking Memishishi 6-0 in the second frame to hand her just her third solo loss of the season. Improving to 7-2 in league doubles action, Xin and teammate Marli Van Heerden topped their Wildcat counterparts 6-4 as ACU lost its first doubles match point since March 1. This marks Xin’s second weekly honor of the 2019 season.
